My Vision to Solve Our Housing Crisis
As your Mayor, I'll take on the housing crisis head-on—because skyrocketing costs and rising numbers of our neighbors becoming unsheltered, especially in communities of color, demand bold action, not more delays. Everyone deserves a place to call home.
My Comprehensive Housing Plan:
-
Expand our homelessness response team with compassionate, dignified strategies
Deepen partnerships with Hennepin County and the State to offer coordinated, wraparound services: mental health care, substance use treatment, job placement, and legal aid
Ensure access to harm reduction resources, including expanded Narcan distribution and training
Work with Hennepin County to access low-barrier shelter options—safe, dignified spaces that lead directly to permanent housing and implement a housing-first approach with sustainable, long-term support
-
Increase funding and slash barriers to the Affordable Housing Trust Fund
Work with the rent stabilization work group to develop a policy that protects tenants while allowing reasonable returns for landlords
Ensure developers increase the number of affordable units in all new developments over 20 units
Work directly with developers and communities to increase deeply affordable units
-
Cut permit processing times by streamlining our approval process
Create dedicated fast-track lanes for affordable housing projects
Expand transit-oriented development zones with density bonuses
Spearhead revitalization of existing buildings into more housing
-
Dedicate 40% of climate investment to disadvantaged communities and create a Climate Equity Fund.
Build a green workforce pipeline through job training, apprenticeships, and startup support.
Launch an Office of Climate Action, a public dashboard, and community-led climate councils.
Fully support and implement the Minneapolis 2040 Plan to drive sustainable land use and development.
This crisis won't fix itself—we need urgent, coordinated, and fearless leadership to make housing a right, not a privilege. Together, we can build a city where housing works for all of us.
My Vision for Minneapolis Public Safety
I'll fight for real public safety—one that protects everyone, no exceptions.
Safety isn't just about reacting to crime—it's about preventing it by building trust, investing in what works, and demanding accountability at every level. A system that doesn't earn the community's trust fails before it even starts. We need a safety strategy that puts people first, not just policing—one that actually makes us safer, not just feel safer.
I'll do this by:
Investing in prevention first. Expanding mental health response teams, violence interrupters, and youth opportunity programs that address the root causes of crime before it happens.
Rebuilding community trust through accountability. Implementing transparent civilian oversight, body camera reforms, and clear disciplinary procedures for police misconduct that have real consequences.
Creating a comprehensive safety ecosystem. Developing specialized response teams for situations that don't require armed officers, while ensuring violent crimes receive swift, professional police response.
Supporting evidence-based policing. Focusing police resources on violent crime while expanding community-oriented policing practices that build relationships in neighborhoods.
Prioritizing alternative justice solutions. Expanding restorative justice programs, diversion initiatives, and rehabilitation services that reduce recidivism and heal community harm.
Ensuring equitable protection across all neighborhoods. Distributing resources based on data and need, not political influence, so every Minneapolis resident feels and is equally protected.
Together, we can build a Minneapolis where public safety means everyone is truly safer—not just some of us.
My Pledge to Protect Your Rights
I'll fight to protect our civil liberties—no exceptions.
As a parent of three, I worry that my children will have fewer rights than I did growing up. Minneapolis must stand up for all our neighbors—without exception. Our strength comes from protecting the rights and dignity of everyone who calls this city home, and that requires real action.
Minneapolis must be a city where everyone's civil liberties are protected and everyone belongs—without exception. That means defending reproductive rights, ensuring true public safety and police accountability, protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ residents, expanding protections for renters and workers, and standing firm as a sanctuary city for immigrants and refugees.
No one should be criminalized for being unhoused, seeking healthcare, or simply existing. That’s why we must:
Defend immigrant families from harmful deportation policies.
Enforce strong anti-discrimination protections for our Trans community.
Safeguard reproductive rights by ensuring access to abortion and gender-affirming care.
End unconstitutional searches that erode public trust and disproportionately harm marginalized communities.
Justice isn’t justice unless it includes all of us. I will work to make Minneapolis a city where everyone—regardless of background, identity, or circumstance—feels safe, valued, and free.
My Vision for Economic Growth & Workers' Rights
I will work across sectors to build a thriving ecosystem of businesses that collaborate, innovate, and grow together- ensuring Minneapolis becomes a national model for inclusive, community-driven economic development.
I'll champion both workers and small business owners—because when they thrive, our city thrives. Small businesses aren't just storefronts; they're job creators, community builders, and the backbone of our economy. But too often, they're squeezed by rising costs and red tape. We need bold policies that cut barriers, protect workers, and fuel real growth—because a strong local economy means better jobs, more opportunity, and a city where everyone can build a future.
I'll do this by:
Creating a Small Business Resource Hub offering free legal and accounting assistance, streamlined permitting, and low-interest microloans to help entrepreneurs thrive without drowning in paperwork
Establishing a "Living Wage Certification" program with tax incentives for businesses that pay fair wages and provide benefits, creating a race to the top that benefits both workers and ethical employers
Launching a "Buy Local" initiative with city procurement preferences for local businesses, especially those with strong labor practices and community ties
Forming a Small Business & Labor Advisory Council with equal representation from both sectors to guide policy decisions and ensure we're creating balanced solutions that work for everyone
Join me in building an economy that works for all of us. Together, we can create a city of opportunity where businesses and workers lift each other up.
My Vision for Climate Justice in Every Neighborhood
As Mayor, I will position Minneapolis as a national leader in urban climate action. Our city faces unique challenges from air pollution, extreme weather, and environmental inequity, but we also have tremendous natural resources and opportunities to build a more sustainable, healthier future for all residents. I’ll support climate resilience measures. To help Minneapolis tackle climate change, I support the smart, practical solutions in the 2040 Plan—better buildings, cleaner energy, and easier, greener ways to get around.
Minneapolis can be a national leader in climate justice—if we act boldly. That means investing in green infrastructure, expanding public transit, and creating sustainable housing that’s affordable and energy-efficient. It means prioritizing frontline communities in every climate policy. I support community-owned renewable energy, clean air and water protections, and decarbonizing public buildings. My climate policy will center equity, accessibility, and resilience.
